What should you do after a car accident?

In the seconds after a car crash, your adrenaline is going to be rushing. You may not notice the injuries until hours or even days later when that adrenaline is slowly gone away. So it is very important after a car crash to get yourself checked out. The other reason why you want to get yourself checked out early on is so that it prevents an insurance company or a defense law firm from trying to claim that you were not injured. Do not be scared of what the cost may be. Get checked out. According to NerdWallet, you will get reimbursed for that later down the road.

The second thing to do is to take photos. Take photos of your car and yourself. If you have an injury that shows there is swelling, coloration or someplace in your car, take a picture of that as well. It could be important later. Do not post on social media about your case. The insurance company and defense lawyers are going to be looking for that stuff. What they look for is a post, a message or a picture they can use out of context to hurt your case later.

Try and collect witnesses’ information. If the police officer comes and the witness says the police are here and they will be leaving, you will not have that person’s information. Early on, try and get that person’s name and their telephone number. That will help you in your case. Always remember insurance companies do not pay out money out of the goodness of their heart
