What are the signs of these injuries? How do they manifest, and how quickly do these symptoms show? This information is crucial for recovery.

Physical signs of TBIs

Mayo Clinic talks about the impact of traumatic brain injuries and the symptoms that may come from one. Physical, mental and behavioral symptoms often shine through the most. Of them, you will likely spot the physical ones first.

With TBIs, the physical symptoms tend to have a fast onset. They are also quite extreme. For example, a victim might experience excruciating head pain, dizziness, nausea and vomiting. Numbness in the hands and feet also happen. Many many experience sensory disorders, such as a ringing in the ears. Clear fluid may leak from the ears or nose. The pupils might also dilate to different sizes.

Behavioral and mental signs

Mental and behavioral symptoms often overlap. For example, a victim may suffer from a confused mental state. This confusion could cause them to grow agitated and lash out at others. It might also overwhelm them and cause them to have an emotional outburst.

Victims also often suffer from a disorder of consciousness. This can mean passing out, blacking out or even going comatose. Some also struggle to sleep or stay awake. If you notice any of these symptoms, you or the sufferer will need immediate medical care to prevent long term damage.
