How can I increase visibility on a motorcycle?.

It is very common for the driver in a passenger vehicle to claim that they did not see the motorcyclist in the aftermath of a crash with one. Given that motorcycles do have a much slimmer profile than passenger vehicles, it is likely that this is true.

However, that is likely little consolation to the motorcyclist, who may have suffered extreme injury or death. This is why it is of paramount importance to ensure that you are very visible on your bike. According to Motoress, you should consider upgrading your headlight bulb, adding reflective tape to your gear and wear a high-visibility vest when riding.

Headlight adjustments

It is a good idea to keep your headlight on at all times, even during the day. Doing so can help make you more visible, particularly to oncoming traffic.

Another good tip is to make sure that your headlight is at a proper angle. Often, after a long period of riding, the headlight on your motorcycle may come out of place. Double-check to make sure that your headlight is at the right angle and projects as wide of a beam as possible.

Reflective tape and vests

Reflective tape is an easy and inexpensive way to make yourself more visible on the road. Placing reflective tape around your tail light, panniers or rear fender is a good way to increase your visibility. You can also use pinstripe tape to line the inside edges of your motorcycle wheel rims.

Finally, throwing a high-visibility vest over your motorcycle jacket is a very good way to ensure that other motorists see you. Particularly if you are riding at night, a high-visibility vest is a must.
